Tharavades have an important role in the thekkepuram history and as well as in culture also.it is one of the most attractive part of thekkepuram not only for forgieners but also for the others that i came to know when i describe our thekkepuram with my classmates, they cant imagine a big house having more than 30 people living in group with love and brotherhood .so the Tharavades are a valuable items for thekkepuram.but it is sad to say you that the Tharavades in the thekkepuram is vanishing from the last 10 years.every demolished Tharavades have its own tale and resons to tell abt their distruction.before 10 to 20 years there was only very few single houses but now we can see alot of single houses in the place of Tharavades.it is sure that there will be only few Tharavades which can be counted on fingers after few years.so i feel that a valuable item like DIAMOND is losing for thekkepuram by losing the Tharavades. It is true that most resident in Thekkepuram is spending too much money for marriage and no body is bothered about that. Personally, me too also find nothing wrong in spending for marriages, provided by, the person who is responsible for the marriage has enough fund. But there are some people who borrow the money and make the marriage lavish, that is intolerable.

All might have noticed that during the marriage season (during the Gulf schools vacation) there will be so many marriage functions in Thekkepuram itself. Around 99% of the marriage invitees are same for all marriages and only the host will be changed. Also there are so many marriages in one family group even only in week’s difference. If all the family members are taking interest, the marriages in one family group can be celebrated in one function, there by reducing the individual marriage cost in different days. The cost of the function could be divided among the family, who is participating in the group marriage.

Further, if there is any uniformity in food, there will not be any comparison between the marriages.

We all know we are referred to as the "Thekkepuram" ones but hardly any know why actually we are called so. I too was one such "wonderer" until this question was raised to Mr. Fazal Pookoya Thangal when Nuzul and myself had a chance to meet with him. Well, he did have an answer and which came out quite spontaneously. So those of you who are looking for one, here it is..

The so called Thekkepuram People were traditionally into and were dominant in Big Bazar and Kallai Timber Business. Since Kuttichira lies South ('thekku') to Big Bazar, the business men based in Big Bazar referred to the area as Thekkepuram. So was this terminology "Thekkepuram People" coined to refer to its residents.

So finally now, we got one answer!
