We all know we are referred to as the "Thekkepuram" ones but hardly any know why actually we are called so. I too was one such "wonderer" until this question was raised to Mr. Fazal Pookoya Thangal when Nuzul and myself had a chance to meet with him. Well, he did have an answer and which came out quite spontaneously. So those of you who are looking for one, here it is..
The so called Thekkepuram People were traditionally into and were dominant in Big Bazar and Kallai Timber Business. Since Kuttichira lies
South ('thekku') to Big Bazar, the business men based in Big Bazar referred to the area as Thekkepuram. So was this terminology "Thekkepuram People" coined to refer to its residents.
So finally now, we got one answer!
